Copper Kelly is happy to announce the release of his new single Sixteen Tons on Feb 12th 2021.
Sixteen Tons is a song written by Merle Travis in 1946 about a coal miner, and has been famously covered by Tennessee Ernie Ford in 1955 and Johnny Cash in 1987. When Copper heard it the first time, he knew immediately that he wanted to record his own version. The song he’s produced is a modern take of a very old song.
Copper produced, mixed, sang lead vocals, played acoustic guitar, bass and lead guitar. Alex Furlong played the drums, Mark Bolger rhythm guitar and with Heather Turkington and Rory Cooper on backing vocals. Rory added a fantastic barbershop quartet style backing vocals during the choruses which really lifts the song.
